Käenoja Heating Plant and Toijala District Heating Network

Caligo technology innovation combines effectively traditional wet scrubbing methods with modern heat pump technologies in a biomass plant’s flue gas treatment and heat recovery process. Due to it’s maximized condensing effect Caligo technology enables the use of extremely wet fuels in the plant process with the highest heat recovery performance available. As an outcome, even 35% savings in heating energy can be reached. Attention should also be paid to the fact that the patented combination not only maximizes the heat recovery performance, but also minimizes the consumption of electricity by the heat pump in any circumstances. This ensures attractive enough economic pay back time for the investment among 3-20 MW bioenergy plants. Due to the use of advanced wet scrubbing technologies, flue gas particles and SO2 are filtered effectively before the flue gases are released to the air. In addition, condensed water is clarified, filtered and neutralized before leading it to sewer network. Caligo solution is applicable for any biomass power plants using wooden chips and/or peat. It’s provided as a standard, independently operating unit. The system is designed for biomass plants from 3MW up to 20MW and it’s always delivered as factory tested, “plug and play” type of product. Basic particle filtering and condense treatment features are included in the standard version. Boosted particle filtering and high solids concentration features are optionally available.
