City of Espoo planned a new build area and organized a plot competition with quality and ESG targets. Real estate developers, Avara Oy and TA-Asunnot Oy, collaborated and designed a mutual energy plant for the area with the help of QHeat and its geothermal low temperature thermal network. This solution was the winning concept and building of the sites begun in December 2021. Since January 2023 the geothermal low temperature heating network has been heating the homes of hundreds of residents. Six apartment buildings with nearly 250 apartments and a floor area of approximately 14,000 square meters have been connected to the low temperature network. The network is served by three medium deep geothermal heat wells. This future proof solution is modular, and new buildings can be added as the area grows.
